The Forum of Free Enterprise is a non-political organization founded in 1956 by A.D Shroff and was established to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and a democratic way of life. The Forum publishes booklets to further its objects. The following booklet titled, “Access to Medicines at Affordable Prices” was published in 2014 and was authored by Dr. Y.K Harnied. The author emphasized the importance of access to quality and affordable medicines as a fundamental right for humans in helping to prevent the spread of diseases and suffering. The author illustrated the significance of patents and compulsory licensing in the sector of manufacturing of medicines. The author highlighted the features of the verdict given by the Gujral Committee in regards to the problem of the Dunkel Draft on TRIPS (Trade-related IP systems). Lastly, the author emphasized that innovation is an essential means for India’s development and growth.
