The Forum of Free Enterprise is a non-political organization founded in 1956 by A. D. Shroff, and has been established to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and a democratic way of life. The Forum publishes booklets to further its objects. The following booklet titled ‘A Philosophy of Business’ is authored by S.S. Kanoria and published in 1972. The author defines the words business and philosophy. He talks about the antithesis of the terms, Keynes’s take on it, and India’s battle of ideas. He criticises laissez faire, socialism, and use of socialism in India. He focuses on infusing private enterprises with social good and adhering to self-discipline. He underlines the significance of competition in business and its impact of efficiency. He suggests understanding the importance of individualism, encouraging small and medium scale industries, taking account of popular aspirations, creative entrepreneurship in agriculture, increasing production, and better industrial management.
