The Forum of Free Enterprise is a non-political organization founded in 1956 by A. D. Shroff, and has been established to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and a democratic way of life. The Forum publishes booklets to further its objects. The following booklet is titled “Agriculture and Economic Growth” was converted to text from Prof. Colin Clark’s lecture. In this lecture, Prof. Clark rightly recognised the then emerging problem for India – one of food crisis and inflation, which indeed proved out to be true. He further provides a critical analysis of the policies the government of India had adopted with respect to food crops and agriculture industry in general. He has certain suggestions and recommendations that to this day have not been considered. In light of the current turmoil in the agriculture industry, the reader might find some new insights.
