The poem “The Guardian of Liberty“ was recited by Nadir Godrij that beautifully captured the essence of the Forum and government policies over the years, attracting a large number of readers. He begins by celebrating the steady growth and stability that India received after years of struggle when India was actually fighting against all adversities. He calls the leaders of the nation as ‘Selfless’ due to their constant effort and struggles due to which Civil Discourse was maintained, a scientific temper was regained. But he shows grief in one area which is not a free enterprise economy. The poet gives reasons for this in which he states that the country went in the socialist direction in the initial stages due to the Socialist nature of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru as the Government seized the commanding rights and not much was left for the rest. After witnessing some alarming trends in the economy like tax rates being confiscated etc, A.D Shroff made a good entry to save the economy from falling by calling in some business units from the Forum of free enterprise. After dominating in the early days, the Forum began to fail as it was castigated by the FCCI. This indicated how low the support for business was. Despite some adversities, the Forum gained some much needed support as many people preferred the idea of a free enterprise for the good growth of the economy. With the new budget plan of the Forum, it’s vision for promoting youth education was a big boost to the nation and was applauded with open hearts. And while there was free enterprise, rulers could claim any prize as power vested at the top. It took some years for democracy to be fully installed with true means as there were a lot of struggles in the initial stage. The author concludes by stating that equality is a desired quality but it can never replace a person’s liberty. It took some years for people to realize that the socialist society in which they were living in, could not produce the much needed goods. If our leaders had listened to the advice of some wise people, then we as a nation would have received the success we desired for much earlier than what we witnessed in the times of Dr Manmohan Singh who helped in initiating reforms that paved the way for a golden future.
