The Forum of Free Enterprise is a non-political organization founded in 1956 by A. D. Shroff, and has been established to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and a democratic way of life. The Forum publishes booklets to further its objects. The following booklet titled ‘Business-Government understanding’ is authored by Naval H. Mehta and published in 1984. The author observes that the subject of government-business relationship evokes intense debate. He analyses the causes of such misunderstandings between the government and business organizations and recommends the Chamber of Commerce to solve the conflict. He advocates for cooperation between the government and business community to relax the number of laws and paperwork and share responsibility through meaningful dialogue. He mentions certain scenarios where the businessmen can approach the government when it is a matter of national interest. He states that when the government acts with flexibility and collaborates with the private sector, Indian can perform well.
