The Forum of Free Enterprise is a non-political organization founded in 1956 by A. D. Shroff, and has been established to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and a democratic way of life. The Forum publishes booklets to further its objects. The following booklet titled “Devaluation of the rupee: Causes and Consequences” is a compilation of speeches and articles on the topic of Devaluation. ‘Devaluation brings India at crossroads’ is based on a talk given by N.A Palkhivala under the auspices of Forum of Free Enterprise, Bombay on 27th June 1966. The author elaborates on the necessity of devaluation, its hardships, and suggests measures to extract maximum benefits from the process. ‘Devaluation points up the need for discipline’ is an article reproduced from Hindustan Times dated June 22, 1966. The author argues that devaluation needs to be supplemented by discipline of good management by the government. ‘What is devaluation’ is an article by Dr. Kersi Doodha which clears the false notions regarding devaluation. The author elaborates on fundamental disequilibrium, crucial factors for making devaluation successful, and the importance of price stability.
