The Forum of Free Enterprise is a non-political organization founded in 1956 by A. D. Shroff, and has been established to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and a democratic way of life. The Forum publishes booklets to further its objects. The following booklet titled “Developmental Dimension to Financial Sector” was published on May 5, 2010 and was authored by Dr. Y V Reddy. In the aftermath of the 2008-09 global financial crisis the topic at hand had become increasingly relevant. Dr. Reddy reflects on the role of the financial sector in economic management and discusses the matter of reforms in the financial sector. He proposes various means necessary to bring about financial stability, and provides a fair assessment of the situation prevalent in the country. He suggests avoiding extremes in policy making and planning for reforms within the financial sector. He gives a balanced perspective on the state of the financial sector, and its role as a public service provider.
