The Forum of Free Enterprise is a non-political organization founded in 1956 by A. D. Shroff, and has been established to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and a democratic way of life. The Forum publishes booklets to further its objects. The following booklet titled ‘India needs urgently a communication revolution’ is authored by N.T. Taskar and published in 1983. The author examines the progress of communication during the British rule and the scenario of telecommunication in the world. He observes that India lags in communication as the government is slow and conservative. He highlights how technology has revolutionized the banking industry. He throws light on the neglect of communication facilities in industrial sectors and lack of communication facilities in rural areas with regards to the power sector. Due to short-sighted policies of the government, the railway sector has to manage with insufficient equipment. He elaborates how communication plays a major role in managing social upheavals. He points out the status of communication in India and put forths recommendations like independent body to look after communication sector.
