The Forum of Free Enterprise is a non-political organization founded in 1956 by A. D. Shroff, and has been established to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and a democratic way of life. The Forum publishes booklets to further its objects. The following booklet titled ‘Managing a business in India’ is authored by T.Thomas and Dilip G. Piramal and published in 1980. In his essay ‘Relationship with Environment’, T.Thomas illustrates the importance of the external environment. He highlights how the government plays a dominant role in businesses,the lack of trust between government and private industry, and obstacles faced by the industry. He suggests imposing cash limits on the public sector and bridge the gap between the government and private industry. Dilip G. Piramal elaborates the principles of success in business in his essay ‘Guiding Principles for Business Success’. He elucidates the importance of ethical and moral standards, pursuit of excellence, and sustained economic viability of the enterprise.
