The Forum of Free Enterprise is a non-political organization founded in 1956 by A. D. Shroff and has been established to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and a democratic way of life. The Forum publishes booklets to further its objects. The following booklet titled “Should Our Population Be Allowed To Explode?” was published on September 14, 1989, and was authored by Dr. Fredoon P. Antia. The author makes a case for increasing social awareness among all sections of the population about the importance of family planning. Antia substantiates his case by citing China’s ‘One Child Policy’ and its effective implementation as a successful initiative. He argues that the Family Welfare Programme in India is being promoted on a voluntary basis following democratic principles, but there is a need for more serious execution.  He further suggests that, if we are as serious as China is and as we should be, we should set a scientifically calculated goal based on the one family one-child policy to reduce the recklessly accrued population in the recent past.
