The Forum of Free Enterprise is a non-political organization founded in 1956 by A. D. Shroff has been established to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and a democratic way of life. The Forum publishes booklets to further its objects. The following booklet titled ‘Social Insurance In India’ is a book form of a lecture delivered by B.P. Adarkar, a former Governor on the auspices of the A.D Shroff Memorial Trust in Bombay. The booklet was published on 22nd June 1973.
The booklet explains the two heads of Social Security I.e., Social Insurance and Social Assistance designed for various categories of workers and different risks and contingencies respectively. Mr Adarkar stresses the excessive administrative interference of the Central Government and little financial contributions to the ESI scheme. He also recommends transferring medical care of the employees from the State government to ESI Corporations. The booklet remarks the laudable progress made by Employees State Insurance Scheme, Employees Provident Fund and other insurance security benefitting employees to claim compensation meanwhile suggest necessary steps required for the progress of insurance security in India.
