The fortnightly journal titled Indian Libertarian was founded in 1954 by Indian liberal, Ranchhoddas Bhuvan Lotwala, and edited by his daughter Kusum R Lotwala. The first February ’61 edition was published amid the time when Queen Elizabeth visited India. The issue covered several articles that focused on the state of India. M.A Venkata Rao in, “Republican Or. Socialist Pattern Of Society?” contrasted the differences between a socialist economy and a free economy. M.N.Tholal in, “Congress Deceiving The Country,” emphasized the blunders committed by Congress under the leadership of Mr. Nehru and focused on the government’s road ahead. J. M. Lobo Prabhu in the article, “Collapse of foreign policy,” highlighted the protectionist attitude in India that was one of the factors for the failure of the foreign policies. S. Ramanathan in the next article put down a eulogy for the late Ellen Roy and the daunting effect her death had on the intellectual life of India then. A. D. Howell Smith in the next article focused on the concepts of philosophical materialism etched into new concepts of physical theories. R. C. Traill in the article, “Humanism, Science And Rationalism,” contrasted the ways how practical humanism achieved is a political matter. Sumanth Bankeshwar in, “After Nehru, Who and What ?” questioned the road ahead after Mr.Nehru’s end tenure, and focused on the ability to resist totalitarian ideas and the need of promoting economic revolution. The article titled, “China Has Given Notice: Menon Gives The Green Light,” emphasized the need for modern weaponry for India and the advancement China showcased then. The edition covered several op-eds that spiraled and opined on several issues within India. The edition captured important news headlines covering both nation and worldly stands. Lastly, it concluded with book reviews on the concept of “Self.”
