The Forum of Free Enterprise is a non-political organization founded in 1956 by A. D. Shroff, and has been established to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and a democratic way of life. The Forum publishes booklets to further its objects. The following booklet titled ‘Towards Self-Reliance and Greater Productivity’ is authored by B.T. Dastur and Y.A. Fazalbhoy and published in April 1966. In his essay ‘Towards Self-Reliance’, Y.A. Fazalbhoy explains the drawbacks of foreign dependence, importance of scientific research and appointment of dynamic people for the same. He proposes measures for self-reliance and suggests developing food production, defense, and industries. B.T Dastur focuses on productivity of office, management by measure and highlights the causes of wastage, inadequate utilization, and mismanagement of resources in his essay ‘Office Productivity’. He recommends initiatives like standardization of work, centralization, floor-space utilization, and usage of stationery and capital assets without wastage.
