The Forum of Free Enterprise is a non-political organization founded in 1956 by A. D. Shroff, and has been established to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and a democratic way of life. The Forum publishes booklets to further its objects. The following booklet is titled “Verma Committee Report on Weak Banks” was published in November 1999 and was authored by Dr. A.C. Shah. This booklet is a textual representation of a talk delivered on “M.S. Verma Committee Report on Public Sector Banks” on 20th October 1999 in Mumbai. The author elucidates the Verma committee reports on weak banks and the restructuring strategy that is suggested in the report to make the banks efficient. The author concludes with the view that If the restructuring strategy is properly devised and implemented, it will then set a stage for further and far-reaching reforms.
