The Forum of Free Enterprise is a non-political organization founded in 1956 by A. D. Shroff, and has been established to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and a democratic way of life. The Forum publishes booklets to further its objects. The following booklet titled “Youth for Agricultural Transformation” was published on July 4, 2011 and was authored by Prof. M S Swaminathan. The author discusses the issue of incentivizing young people to view agricultural as a viable career option. In the context of revitalizing and developing agriculture, Prof Swaminathan suggests that it is of high importance to get educated youth to work in this sector. This could improve the current state of affairs within the sector. It would improve productivity and profitability of small holdings, enlarge the scope for agro-processing, agro-industries and agri-businesses, and promote opportunities for the services sector in agricultural operations.
