Summary

This January 1960 issue of the Swatantra Newsletter reports on the rapid organisational expansion of the Swatantra Party across India. It explains that the newsletter is intended to connect regional offices, organisers, and local units, while encouraging initiative at the lowest levels and strengthening the Party’s national structure. It records the relocation of the Central Office from Madras to Bombay, plans for a National Convention at Patna in March 1960, and the forthcoming meeting of the Central Organising Committee in Bangalore.

These reports describe membership drives, district and taluka committee formation, public meetings, recruitment from other parties, rural and student outreach, and local campaigns over transport fares, land, religious sites, and cooperative farming. The issue also includes an Annexure containing a national-defence resolution responding to Chinese Communist aggression. The resolution calls for a firmer and more vigilant security policy, reconsideration of non-alignment in light of territorial violations, closer relations with Pakistan and South and Southeast Asian countries, vigilance against infiltration, and an end to ideological experimentation in domestic policy.
