Ashis Barman wrote for Quest, the journal of ideas sponsored by the Indian Committee for Cultural Freedom, appearing in one issue of the archive’s run (No. 18 (July-September 1958)).

Quest’s contributor note in No. 18 (July-September 1958), p. 91 reads:

Ashis Barman, film critic and short story writer, has just published his first novel. He was one of the Assistant Directors in the film Pathar Panchali.
