S. J. Joshi

S. J. Joshi wrote for Quest, the journal of ideas sponsored by the Indian Committee for Cultural Freedom, appearing in one issue of the archive’s run (Vol. III No. 1 (August-September ‘57)).

Quest’s contributor note in Vol. III No. 1 (August-September ‘57), p. 17 reads:

S. J. Joshi was born in Poona and published his first story in 1939 in Kirloskar a leading Marathi monthly of Maharashtra. His first collection of ten short stories entitled Pandharpeshanche Jag (The White-collar World) indicated his interest in the lives of the lower middle class and was well received. During the World War he contributed a regular satirical feature to the Marathi daily Kal under the pseudonym Kisan suggesting leftist leanings at this stage of his literary career. Since 1950 he has contributed frequently to Satyakatha, a Marathi monthly of creative writing in which The Devil first appeared. Mr. Joshi’s second collection of short stories will be published shortly.
