Quest’s contributor note in No. 18 (July-September 1958), p. 91 reads:

Ignazio Silone was born in the Italian region of the Abruzzi and most of his fiction is centered in that area. His novels ‘Fontamara’, ‘Bread and Wine’, ‘The Seed Beneath the Snow’, and most recently, ‘A Handful of Blackberries’ have put him in the front rank of European men of letters. He once played an important role in the international Communist movement, as he has recorded in his essay in ‘The God That Failed’. He lives in Rome, and in recent years has been editing one of Italy’s leading monthly magazines, Tempo Presente.
