Forum of Free Enterprise Booklets

Booklet series · 484 works · 1956–2019

The longest continuous run in the archive. Founded in Bombay in 1956 by A. D. Shroff, the Forum of Free Enterprise argued the case for the market economy to a country then settling into planning, and it did so chiefly through a stream of slim saddle-stitched booklets — a lecture, a budget analysis, a panel discussion — printed cheaply and posted to members and student associates for a few rupees a year. Between 1956 and 2019 the Forum issued hundreds of them, drawing in Palkhivala, Masani, B. R. Shenoy, Colin Clark, Hayek and Friedman alongside bankers, industrialists and civil servants. The booklets are not serially numbered: the colophon on the back page carries the printing date rather than a booklet number, so the run is ordered chronologically.
